Mr. Harris is a venture partner and focuses on the origination, evaluation, and management of secondary interests in the healthcare sector.  Prior to Industry Ventures, Ryan worked as a Principal at the Carlyle Group for seven years, based in New York and San Francisco.  At Carlyle, Ryan evaluated and executed venture capital, growth equity, and LBO transactions of pharmaceutical, medical device, and healthcare service companies.  At Carlyle, Ryan served as a member or observer on the Board of Directors of Align Technologies (NASDAQ:  ALGN), AqueSys, ConnectiCare, MedPointe Pharmaceuticals, Qualicaps, Inc., Transport Pharmaceuticals, Proteus Biomedical and NeoVista.  He remains on the board of Qualicaps.  Prior to joining Carlyle, Ryan was a consultant in the West Coast Healthcare Practice of McKinsey & Co., working with a variety of biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical device companies on corporate, R&D and marketing strategy.

Ryan holds an M.D. from the University of California, San Francisco. He received an M.S. in health research and policy and B.A. in psychology from Stanford University, and attended Oxford University's Magdalen College. He has authored over 25 scientific articles in peer-reviewed publications such as JAMA, Lancet, Annals of Internal Medicine, and the Journal of Health Economics.
